Tom Robinson is a black man being accused of raping Mayella EWell. When put on the stand he says he would pass her house everyday and help her for free because he wanted to be nice. When he was younger he got his left hand damaged from a machine and could barely do anything with it. Mayella's right side of her face was bruised and that would mean a guy had to punch her with his left hand. However, since Tom's left hand is mangled it would be hard for him to punch her. Tom describes the complete opposite that Mayella threw herself at him and tried to kiss him. He didn't wanna hurt her so he pushed her away gently and tried to leave the house. A theme for Tom Robinson would be racial prejudice because since he is a black man he has more of a chance to lose the case than to win.
In the trial he is questioned by both Atticus and Mr. Gilmer. He tells the courtroom how he always passed the Ewell house and would help Mayella with things just to be nice. He said she called him into the house to help her break down a dresser and when they were inside she flew herself at him. He said she put her arms around him hugged him and kissed him. He explains how he tried to get away but she wouldn't let him and that's when her father seen her hugging on him he was yelling at her through the window. Tom got frightened and mentioned a black man in that situation is bound to get into trouble so he ran off because he got scared. Although there was no proof that Tom raped Mayella the jury still found him guilty. He is sent to jail and hopes for an appeal but with his hopes not high he doesn't think he will get an appeal, so he tries to escape the jail by climbing over the fence. The guards shoot him down after warning him. When Mr. Underwood finds out about Tom's death he wrote an article about him and said good stuff about Tom Robinson.

I chose this photo because it shows that Tom Robinson is fighting for his innocence in the courtroom and doesn't want to be found guilty of something he didn't do.
